Chip and Pin's Maiden Flight in North America
As the first of its kind in North America, the installation of state of the art CUSS kiosks places SNA one step ahead of its competitors and gives them much valued PCI-DSS legislation peace of mind.
As a popular alternative to nearby LAX airport, and the only gateway to California’s renowned Orange County with its exclusive community of Newport Beach, John Wayne Airport (SNA) processes more than 10 million passengers a year. SNA is gaining increasing popularity through an outstanding reputation as rarely experiencing delays, consistently efficient, and, consequently, convenient.
Such praise strongly reflects the work of Ultra: serving SNA for over 5 years, we provide 241 CUPPS positions and support flight operations through our AODB, FIDS and RMS software. Our most recent addition is 143 Materna CUSS kiosks. With new legislation due to make the ‘chip and pin’ transactional process compulsory across America, our solution now provides full PCI-DSS compliance to all 8 of John Wayne’s airlines.
To accompany this, SNA’s recent support renewal included a complete system refresh and upgrade. SNA now operates a fully virtualized environment on VMWare; the end of life WinXP has been replaced with the latest Windows operating system; and all 470 FIDS screens have had a ‘no moving parts’ DDC added, ensuring a longer lifespan and increased savings on maintenance.
With our help, John Wayne Airport is now in a continuous cycle of evolution and growth, and their passengers love them for it.

“I just want to thank the dedicated folks at Ultra. It is a great comfort to know that we have people such as yourselves supporting our systems here at John Wayne Airport. The airlines are extraordinarily complimentary of the work that you folks are doing. You all do a great job of being available and doing what it takes to get the job done. There is an amazing level of desire to do the job right. Many, many thanks for being such a great team with whom to work.”
